Hemel’s David Godridge will be taking on the best British swimmers as he competes in the British Gas Swimming Championships later this week.
The meet is being used as an Olympic selection event, guaranteeing a dramatic and exciting atmosphere at the London Aquatics Centre.
Godridge, 18, will be swimming in the 50m freestyle event alongside Maxwell Swimming Club team-mate Craig Gibbons and junior swimmer Liam O’Brien.
He said: “I am excited to be swimming in the Olympic trials and my aim is to come away with a PB.
“Swimming in the Olympic pool will be a tremendous experience, and I am looking forward to it.”
Godridge’s most recent high level competition was at the 2011 Isle of Man Commonwealth Youth Games where he achieved two silver medals and four personal bests.
He moved to Maxwell Swim Club last Autumn in order to train with Kevin Brooks who is a GB coach.
Brooks said: “I’m delighted that the lads will be able to experience the trials in the new Olympic pool.
“For Liam (O’Brien) and David, this will give them both that Olympic trials experience. They will be able to test themselves against the best of British and see where they stand.
“It’s a really exciting time for them and for Maxwell and I can’t wait to get to that Olympic pool!”
