The Herts Falcons claimed two comfortable victories over the Bracknell Blazers to take an outright lead at the summit of the National Baseball League.
Solid pitching outings from Robbie Unsell and Michael Osborn, as well as a rare grand slam – a home run with the bases loaded – from Cristobal Hiche got the job done for the Falcons.
Elsewhere, the South London Pirates claimed an upset win over Herts’ nearest challengers, the London Mets, but the Southampton Mustangs continue to make an ominous surge up the table after stretching their winning streak to seven games.
Meanwhile, there were two hard-fought and much-needed victories for second tier side Herts Ravens, with pitching wins for Petar Kikel and rising star Liam Green.
In the lower tiers, the Herts Hawks were downed by the Daws Hill Spitfires and the Herts Eagles lost by the narrowest of margins, 8-7, in a well-contested game with Haverhill.
The Herts Raptors, however, continued to gain momentum with a win over Leicester 2Sox.
On the youth side, Herts Baseball Club is actively encouraging boys and girls aged between six and 16 to sign up for Little League World Series and the youth baseball season.
Please visit the club website www.hertsbaseball.com for further information on how to get involved.
