Representatives from Leverstock Green Lawn Tennis Club met with LTA president Cathie Sabin and Herts LTA officials to talk about the very successful Girls in Tennis Programme that is being run at the club.

Head coach Graham Fish and two of his coaching team, Holly Cottingham and Katie Dalmon, explained how the programme aims to grow participation in women’s tennis by attracting and retaining girls in the game .

The initiative offers a range of different services that provide women the opportunity to play tennis in both friendly and competitive settings.

Boasting six home-grown female coaches, all aged 25 and under, the club has a wide selection of role models that younger players can relate to and aspire to become like.

Levy Green also boasts a superb junior girls’ section that includes an unusually large squad of 24 teenagers who train together weekly.

Holly, 20, said: “It was such a privilege to meet Cathie and be able to share what Graham has been putting in place to get more girls involved in tennis locally, sharing our passion and enthusiasm for our club.”

Sabin is the first female president in the LTA’s history, and she is passionate about encouraging girls to give the game a try at grassroots level.

Fish is excited about the future of women’s tennis at the club, adding: “Meeting Cathie was a great reward for all the hard work we have put in to the girls’ programme.

“We will continue to strive to grow the number of young girls coming in to the club and are always very welcoming to any new arrivals.”

One of the newest additions to the Girls in Tennis Programme is coach Scott Paxton’s ladies’ Cardio Tennis sessions, which take place on Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 10.30am.

Scott said: “Cardio Tennis is a very social, fun class for players of all standards that is a great calorie burner and work out for the whole body.”
