HEMEL Town I ended the season in fourth place in HCPL Division Two East after Stevenage scraped to a win.

Put in to bat, Town struggled to 175 all out from their 60 overs, thanks largely to Jay O’Nien’s 82.

In reply, Stevenage reached 157-5 with 12 overs to go, but Craig Weston (3-24) and Nick Hodgins (3-67) gave Hemel hope with late wickets.

It was not enough for Town, though, as Stevenage scraped home with one wicket to spare.

Hemel Town II, meanwhile, were comfortably beaten by Division Two strugglers County Hall who were relegated despite their win.

Giles Berry (36) and Martin Wright (22) were the only Hemel players to score more than 20 as the side slipped to a seven-wicket defeat.

Duncan Howard (2-31) and Wright (1-23) got the wickets for Town.

Elsewhere, Hemel Town III were relegated from Division Six despite a battling draw against Welwyn Garden City II.

The Hemel fifth XI were defeated by Ware II.
