With the new cricket season fast approaching, the Hemel Hempstead Town CC youngsters are hoping for another successful season – especially county duo Billy May and Ed Langley.

Both were key players in the Hemel U17 side’s County Cup-winning campaign last year and both have been training with Hertfordshire during the winter months under the guidance of former England players Mark Illot and Min Patel.

Billy, 17, played for the County men’s second team in several two-day games last season and was invited to net with the first team during March.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Ed was a regular for Herts U14s last season, while dad Jim still turns out for Herts over-50s.

Sometimes – along with Ed’s 18-year-old brother Will – all three can be found playing alongside each other in the same Hemel team.

Meanwhile, the deadline is nearing for teams to sign up for this year’s Adex-sponsored Heath Park Cup competition.

Any club from Dacorum or the surrounding area can enter the tournament, which is played in a 20-over knockout format.

The final will take place at Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club’s Heath Park ground on Friday, July 11.

To enter your club, please email Caradoc Bevan at caradoc.bevan@btinternet.com before Saturday, April 12.

Last year’s tournament was won by Abbots Langley after they beat Leverstock Green in the final.
