HOCKEY: Berkhamsted’s first XI continued their good start to the season with a 2-0 win over fellow high-flyers Southgate Adelaide I.
The game started slowly, and a couple of missed chances were all either side could muster in a cagey first half.
But the half-time interval sparked Berko into life, and they took a deserved lead when a well-worked move ended in a short corner which was coolly converted by Allam .
Southgate – rattled by the goal – began to lose their cool, and Berko wrapped up the win with a second goal. A shot from Jason Silver was saved by the Southgate keeper and deflected on to a defender, resulting in a Berko penalty.
Allam took the flick, placing it coolly down the middle for his second goal of the game to secure the points.
The second side, meanwhile, recorded a 2-2 draw against an experienced Bedford Vets side.
Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Berko got back on level terms with goals from Nick Burles and Mark Robinson to leave the game balanced at 2-2 with 10 minutes to go.
Robinson hit the post as both teams pressed for a winner, but in the end a draw was a fair result.
Elsewhere, the fourths drew 1-1 with Hertford in an open affair.
Berko were sloppy in the first half but rallied after the break to earn the draw through an Amish Adora.
