KARTING supremo Ed Brand has clinched the Ginetta Super One Rotax championship title with a round to spare.

The Dagnall star swept to victory at PFI – one of Britain’s best and most treacherous circuits – to take the crown and increase his tally of wins to eight this season.

From the beginning of Saturday’s preliminary rounds, the A-Level student was among the front runners and he did not look back.

Although he missed out on the overall pole-position in timed qualifying – by just four one hundredths of a second – Brand won both of his heats in commanding style.

His successes ensured that he was given pole position on the starting grid for the first of Sunday’s two finals.

Knowing that winning the pre-final would all but assure him of the title, Brand got the perfect getaway from the line and opened a gap, before storming to the win.

Clearly in confident mood, Brand was equally impressive in the main final.

Out in front, the youngster established a commanding lead with a true champion’s drive. Despite wet and stormy conditions, Brand was able to able to extend the gap with each lap.

Fittingly, the Strawberry Racing star set the fastest lap as he cemented the championship in emphatic fashion.
