Kings Langley slump to a heavy defeat

KINGS Langley first XI slipped to a disappointing eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Wheathampstead.

Batting first, Kings were soon in trouble at 32-4, before Mitch Roberts (56) and Andrew Burnell (19) took the score to 82. Oli Toms added 36, but the Kings side was bowled out for 181 in the 47th over.

Kings struck early in Wheathampstead’s reply – leaving their opponents on 50-2 – but a match-winning partnership of 134 saw Wheathampstead home after 34 overs.

It was better news for Kings Langley II, though, as they consolidated their place in second position in the league with a seven-wicket win over Harpenden IV.

Having bowled Harpenden out for 197, Kings chased down the runs and secured the win in the 43rd over.

Greg Pinchin (48) and Tom Clark (76 n/o) set them on their way, and a useful knock of 44 not out from Dave Houghton saw them home.

Elsewhere, Kings Langley III once again showed their inconsistency by losing by eight wickets to a strong Datchworth side.

Batting first, Datchworth finished on 244-2 to give Kings plenty of work to do with the bat.

And after losing both openers quickly in reply, Kings never looked like reaching the target and were bowled out for 109.

Kings’ fifth XI were also beaten, going down by six wickets to Hertford V.
