Former captains of Little Hay Golf Club returned to their old stomping ground to take on the former captain and his team in the annual clash.

A total of 14 past captains from 1990 onwards were cheered on by five others – including founding captain Mike Jepson – as they put up a good battle, but were eventually beaten 8-5 by their younger opponents.

Meanwhile, the Little Hay ladies’ team beat Verulam 4-3 in an away match in the first stage of the Pearson Trophy, despite being one player short.

The winning Little Hay team was Linda Reeve, Dorcas Kindinger, Linda Cusick, Jackie Joslyn and Caroline Banks.

Elaine Meagher, who is non-playing captain of the Little Hay ladies’ team for the Pearson Trophy, has been chosen to play for the Herts County senior ladies’ team.

Elsewhere, the midweek ladies and the business ladies have been competing for the Spring Bouquet – a combined Stableford competition.

The overall winner was Banks with 36 points, while Meagher came second with 35 points and Pauline Manning was third with 34 points.

The seniors were also in action, but they were beaten by Redbourn. Little Hay captain Paul Thompson said: “It was a great match which, while we lost by 5 ½ to 2 ½, felt much closer. There were three draws, one win for us and four losses that all went down to the last hole.”
