A group of 15 Dacorum & Tring AC Road Runners are limbering up to take on the Virgin London Marathon at the weekend, with 10 of them taking on the challenge to raise money for various charities.

Jessica Tanner will be running for Starlight, which supports terminally ill children, while Kirsty Russell is backing Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

Samantha Hawkridge is raising much needed funds for the Ian Rennie Hospice and Richard Smith is supporting the Anthony Nolan UK blood cancer charity, while Lee Bryant is running for both Sands and Kings College Children.

Steve Russell is supporting Target Ovarian, the ovarian cancer society, while Alex Dean is backing Whizz Kidz, the disabled children’s charity.

Anya Higgins will be running in club colours, along with husband and wife team Andrew and Hannah Cracknell.

Andrew, who will be running in London for the sixth time, will be looking to beat his personal best time of 2 hours, 43 minutes and 50 seconds, set in 2012.

Also running in London are Greta Moss, in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, Kelly Du Buisson, running for the World Wildlife Fund, Jason Hawkridge, raising money for A Smile for a Child which helps disabled and disadvantaged children, and Vicky Samson, supporting the Youth Cancer Trust.

Rupinder Mahil will also be running in club colours on the day.

But London is not the only marathon show in prospect for Dacorum & Tring; Louisa Hopper will run the Milton Keynes Marathon in early May, while Pat Hayball will take on the Edinburgh Marathon three weeks later.

The group has been following a 16-week marathon training schedule set by John Jales, the club’s head coach, and winner of a lifetime achievement award at the 2013 Dacorum Sports Awards.
