With unavailability still very high for the second weekend of half-term, the Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club teams dug deep to string an impressive set of results together.

All of the ladies’ teams won their games, while the only defeat for the men’s teams came for the fourths away at Bishop’s Stortford.

The stand-out performances came from the men’s second XI who remained unbeaten with a 9-1 thrashing of Harpenden, and the ladies’ firsts who triumphed 6-5 against West Herts.

The ladies’ second team also won, and the men’s firsts and thirds had hard fought draws in their games.

The men’s fifths and ladies’ thirds were awarded walkover wins with Broxbourne and Shefford & Sandy also struggling with availability.

Roger Payton led the way for the men’s second XI with a hat-trick, while Paul Whitby, Julian Laxon and Simon Kaye bagged two apiece.

Molly Beard bagged four goals and Ellie Jones and Harriette Holderness were also on target as the ladies’ firsts edged a thriller, while the ladies’ second XI had a Lily Fitzsimons brace and a strike from Sarah Filby to thank for their 3-1 win over Stevenage.

The men’s firsts got their season back on track with a 4-4 draw against Shefford & Sandy as Alex Macindoe and Pete Allam both scored twice, while the thirds drew 1-1 with Rickmansworth courtesy of a strike from Mark Robinson.
