Tring school pupil Michael Fryer represented his school at the Great Britain National Schools judo championships in Sheffield at the weekend.
In his first fight Michael, 14, dispatched his opponent with a big throw and a ground hold.
In the second round he drew the number 1 seed –an old rival from Gateshead – and in the end it was a minor penalty against Michael that settled it.
This put him into the reprecharge where his class shone through and he won the rest of his fights with ease to bag the bronze.
Michael trains at Rushjudo in Berkhamsted on Tuesdays and Fridays. Details can be found at www.rushjudo.co.uk
