IT was a week to remember for the Berkhamsted ladies’ first team as they clinched promotion with a 1-0 victory over league champions Saffron Walden in their final game of the season.
A first-half strike from Clair Barrett Mould proved to be the only goal of an exciting match, and secured the side’s place in Division Two for next season.
Despite a second-half onslaught from Saffron Walden, the Berko defence stood firm to take the win. Midfielder Molly Beard was voted player of the match.
The men’s third team also had reason to celebrate as they thrashed promotion rivals Winchmore Hill and Enfield 7-0 to stretch their unbeaten run to 16 games.
The side made light work of the absence of captain and playmaker Ben Moorhouse, and romped to the victory with goals from Didi Seymour (2), Giles Graham, Mark Robinson (2) and Hugo Graham (2).
Elsewhere, the ladies’ second team fought back from a goal down to record a 2-1 win over Milton Keynes. Anna Macklin and Paula Wislon got the goals.
Brian de Mattos was on target for the men’s fourths in a 1-1 draw with Cheshunt, but the first and fifth teams both lost.
The firsts went down 4-2 to Luton, while the fifths were beaten 4-1 by Blueharts.
