Hertfordshire darts team slipped to fifth in the league table following a 24-15 defeat to Somerset which severely dents their promotion hopes.
The Herts side has been struggling for form in recent matches, but the ladies’ B team got them off to a solid start with a 3-3 draw.
Boxmoor’s Kelly Brown was in action for the team but she was edged out 3-2 in a close encounter.
With the scores tied, it was the turn of the men’s B team to take to the oche, but they slipped to an 8-4 loss.
Boxmoor representative Steve Hartley had levelled the game at 3-3 thanks to a 3-1 victory, but a tail-end collapse saw Herts crash to the defeat and hand Somerset an 11-7 overall lead.
With Somerset holding the advantage, the Herts ladies’ A side needed to find a response, but a 4-2 win extended the host’s lead to 15-9.
Boxmoor’s Linda Reed was one of the beaten quartet for the Herts team, losing out 3-1 in her individual game.
From six games down, it was always going to be difficult for the men’s A side to rescue the match for Herts.
And despite securing a battling 6-6 draw, there was nothing they could do to prevent the overall defeat.
The Boxmoor contingent in the men’s A side enjoyed mixed fortunes, with captain Peter Kosmalski slipping to a 3-2 defeat and John McGuirk and Dave Meader both securing wins.
Meader took the Player of the Match award after fighting back from a 12-dart defeat in the first leg to take the game 3-1 with a 31.68 average.
