The Tring Hockey Club men’s first team have secured promotion as league champions with five matches still to play.
Their 5-0 home win over Staines saw them continue their record-breaking season, and leaves them with an incredible record of 15 wins from 15 matches.
The game against Staines saw Tring continue to play in the style that has become their trademark this season, moving the ball well all round the pitch, attacking at speed when needed, and controlling possession for long periods of time.
Goals from Greg Roach, Matt Aikens, two from Owen Holton, and one from captain Ash Tillett secured the points and saw the team pass 100 goals for the season.
Tring could and should have scored more, but were wasteful in front of goal, failing to convert any of their short corners in the game.
At the other end, goalie and coach Rob Goodhew made one or two important saves in between directing the team in front of him.
Tring men’s club captain Chris Hartley said “Following on from the ladies’ first team winning promotion last season, this is more great news for Tring Hockey Club.
“The mixture we have of experience and youth, thanks to a thriving colts section and strong professional coaching setup, is really paying dividends.
“We look forward to more success over the rest of this season and in the years to come”.
