Three junior girls from Redbourn Golf Club have qualified to compete in the grand final of the national Wee Wonders Open Golf Championship at St Andrews in Scotland.
Redbourn hosted a qualifying event for the annual junior golf tournament and welcomed youngsters from across the region, competing to earn a place in the grand final at the Home of Golf.
Staged on the Short Kinsbourne Course, the girls booking their place in the final included Sophia Fullbrook, Daisy Smith and Maddie Rolph.
The trio have come through Redbourn’s junior academy programme and regularly play in junior roll ups.
Ian McDowell, general manager at Redbourn Golf Club, said: “We had a fantastic turnout for the competition and for players so young, the talent on show was exceptional.
“Congratulations to Sophia, Daisy and Maddie and best of luck for the final.”
Entry to the annual Wee Wonders Championships is open to any young person aged 5-12 years old – there is no requirement to be a club member or have an official golf handicap.
The popular tournament gives budding young golfers a taste of real competition in a friendly, nine-hole strokeplay format.
The two-day final is to be played over St Andrews Links’ Strathtyrum and Balgove golf courses.
