A YOUNG Ivinghoe Golf Club member had a round to remember as he became only the fifth player ever to hit a sub-60 gross score on the course.
Brandon Black, one week short of his 18th birthday, posted an incredible score of 59 – three-under par for the Ivinghoe course and a staggering net 11-under.
His round included five 2s, which comprised three birdies and two eagles.
In the club’s 60-year history, only four other golfers – Oly Browning, Matt Culley, Russell Howson and resident club professional Mark Flitney – have recorded sub-60 gross scores.
Flitney was among the first people to congratulate Brandon, who plays off 7, on his near flawless display of golf.
He said: “One of the great challenges of this course is that not only have you got to keep it straight, otherwise you’ll pay a penalty, but you’ve also got to be able to control where your ball first lands on these delightful but testing greens.
“To put together a round of 59, in less than perfect conditions, is nothing less than brilliant. It’s a truly magnificent achievement.”
