YOUNGSTERS turned out in force for the Shendish Manor Junior Open last week.
Golfers from throughout Hertfordshire competed in the event, where players with handicaps ranging from 1 to 28 took home the prizes.
The big winner on the day was Ben Smith from Sandy Lodge Golf Club, who bagged the trophy for the best gross score.
The 2 handicapper beat off competition from Redbourn Golf Club’s Nick Ward and Brookmans Park’s Will Symons, who finished second and third, respectively.
Ward and Symons both play off a handicap of 1.
The prize for best nett score, meanwhile, was scooped by 16 handicapper George Avgousti from Mill Green Golf Club.
Second place went to Jamie Gerred from Aldenham golf club, while Stoke Rochford’s Harry Nicholls took third.
James McAlpine smashed his way to the longest drive victory, and the nearest the pin accolade went to Symons.
The prizes were presented by Shendish Manor’s general manager Dean Thompson.
Golf membership sales co-ordinator Bronwen Pateman said : “It was a great success and we shall be hosting the competition again next October.”
