The highlight of the weekend for Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club came on Sunday with an outstanding win for the men’s first XI in the first round of the EH Vase.

The 6-3 victory saw goals from James Barron (4), Pete Allam and 15-year-old Thomas Moorhouse.

On Saturday the men’s firsts had a 2-2 draw against Welwyn GC with goals from Pete Allam and Ollie Bowman.

The Saturday highlight came from the men’s third team who put in a stunning display against St Albans to earn a 7-0 win. Goals came from Will Goodwyn (2), Mark Robinson (2), Jon Bareham, Ed Goodwyn and Tom Kemplen.

The men’s fifth XI are having a brilliant season and a 4-0 win against Stevenage really shows how the team has improved. Young Joe Devey continues to impress in goal with another clean sheet, while the Berko goals came from Richard Korn, Andrew Whitaker and Paul Dubenski (2).

The men’s seconds had a tough game against St Albans which ended in a 4-3 defeat despite goals from Thomas Moorhouse and Alex Macindoe.

Elsewhere, the ladies’ first team drew 3-3 with Rickmansworth with goals from Melissa Mortin, Andrea Betteridge and Kate Price.

The ladies’ thirds had a tough game against unbeaten and top of the table West Herts, losing 2-0. However, the close nature of the match shows the ever-improving nature of the ladies’ section.

Meanwhile, with the ladies’ seconds and men’s fourth games both being cancelled because the oppositions could not get sides out, the club had a fantastic interclub friendly.

This featured members of both Berko sides plus a ream of young future club talent who showed just why things are looking so positive across the club.
