SSKI young guns show fighting spirit to bag a fistful of medals

Dacorum’s Seishinkai Shotokan Karate International clubs took part in an annual U18 kata (forms) and three-step kumite competition at Hemel Hempstead School.

Clubs attended the tournament from, Basingstoke, Luton, St Albans, Reading, London, Croxley Green, Watford, Hemel Hempstead School, Hemel Hempstead Highfield, and Bovingdon.

The standard was excellent, as you would expect from a group that have taken countless top awards at the World, European and National Championships over the last 38 years.

Gold medals went to Thomas Carson (2013 world champion), Crystal Close, Nick Trajcevski, Petra Ewington, Jessica Field and the winning kata team of Ritchie Howlett, Lewis Wilson and Dylan Freeman.

Silver medals were won by Isaac Nathan, Field, Steven Barton, Ewington, Edward McCormick and the kata team of Close, Habib Al Haddad and Freddie Hopkins.

Bronze medals were claimed by Shakeel Miah, Joshua John, Cameron Nash, Howlett (2), and the kata team of Nick Trajcevski, Nirun Premathas and Miah.

Chief instructor Malcolm Phipps 8th Dan was extremely pleased with the excellent standard set by all of the competitors and said that he looks forward to an exciting year ahead.
