HOCKEY: The Tring men’s third side picked up an early Christmas treat as they thrashed Aylesbury fourths 8-1.
It took 15 minutes before things began to click and Tring started putting passes together and creating chances.
And the side took the lead after 20 minutes.
A foot on the line from the last Aylesbury defender gave Dudley Moor-Radford the chance to open the scoring with a penalty flick, and he duly converted to put Tring ahead.
Aylesbury hit back with an equaliser but Tring sprung to life and, within minutes, Bruce McAlpine had converted his first goal of the season from a well taken short corner to regain the lead for his side.
From then on, it was it was one-way traffic through to the final whistle.
The goal of the game was scored in the first half by Chris Haill, who ran from one end of the pitch, into the opposition’s D, and converted with a well taken lifted strike.
Tom Alderton, Hamish Percy, Moor-Radford, Greg Walton and Dave Bonner completed the rout.
It was not such good for the Tring ladies’ first XI, however, as they went down 3-1 to Saffron Walden.
Tring started well and opened the scoring before half-time, but Saffron Walden hit back with three goals after the break to secure the victory.
