A TringRugby quartet represented the Hertfordshire U18 county squad in their defeat to Kent.

Tom Geere, Richard Stewart, Johhny Preston and Ed Ellson were all selected for the game which took place at Charlton RFC.

The weather was dreadful throughout the first half, with horizontal rain affecting both teams as Kent scored two tries to Hertfordshire’s one.

There were a number of changes to the Herts team for the second half to allow everyone a game in preparation for two competitive matches next month.

Stewart and Ellson started the match and were joined by Geere and Preston for the second half.

As the rain eased in the second half, the handling errors seemed to increase on the greasy surface, resulting in a disappointing performance for both teams.

Some good linking play led to a try for Herts, but this was answered with a strong run by Kent and two scores from interception shanded them the win.

Tring’s Will Wood was also selected to represent Herts but was unable to play due to an injured hand.
