Runners seal promotion with gutsy display

Dacorum and Tring Athletics Club finished the season in style as they clinched promotion to Division One of the Chiltern League.

Matt Salt lad the way for the seniors as he put in a storming run to finish first, sealing top spot in his category overall for the season.

Jack Parslow was close behind in second, sealing second place overall, while Andrew Cracknell followed in third – handing him first place overall in his category.

Next home for Dacorum and Tring was Oliver Glyn in 13th, and he was followed by Jamie Marlow in 27th and Ian Needlman in 30th – giving Needleman first place overall in the Over-50 section.

Matt Watt finished 36th, followed by Antony Allen in 57th – third overall for the season in the Over-60 category – John Cooper in 61st, John Slack in 64th, Fabian Mills in 65th, and Malcolm Sargent in 66th.

The ladies were led home by Catherine Davies in sixth, and she was followed by Elizabeth Roberts in 11th, Wendy Pearson in 13th, Laura Merchant in 19th, Hilary Needleman in 22nd, Joanne Baxter in 25th, and Nicola Henry in 27th.

Meanwhile, there were also impressive displays from the juniors.

For the U11 boys, James Glyn finished 21st, with Ben Howell 30th, while U15 runners Jonty Wager-Leigh, Matt Simpson, Louis Glyn and Dominic Evans came fourth, sixth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

Wager-Leigh took second overall.

The U13 boys clinched second place in the overall team competition, with Sam Howell finishing third on the day, ahead of Jake Alderson in 10th and Eddie Duncombe in 11th. Howell bagged an individual second overall.

In the U11 girls’ race, Izzy Aylwin took 12th, with Hannah Tritton in 23rd and Lucy McNulty in 40th.

U17 runners Sarah Needleman and Sarah Grover finished in second and fourth places, while Claire Baxter came ninth in the U15 girls’ event.

Emily Bannister was 10th for the U13 girls.
