U16 British Alpine Ski Team racer Robert Poth has won the slalom race at the FIS International Children’s event, Ski Interkriterium, in the Czech Republic.

Hemel Ski Race Club member Robert won the first run and had an equally flawless second run to take the victory against a strong international field.

BSS alpine performance manager Sean Langmuir said: “Robert came close last year but crashed out on his second run after being ahead in the first run so it is especially rewarding for him to come back and win.”

Jenny Shute, the GB U16 ski race team manager, confirmed that Robert’s win is the first British victory in the Czech Republic in more than 20 years and the first FIS International victory for 15 years at this level.

Robert’s impressive start to the winter season has caused a stir in the alpine ski racing circles.

BBC Ski Sunday’s Graham Bell said: “In Alpine GB skiing we could have discovered a potential British Olympian with Robert Poth’s rare victory in the U16 competition in international racing in the Czech Republic.”

Robert’s mum Gillian added: “Alpine skiing is a very costly sport and there are very few government subsidies available for young talented ski racers.

“Robert is currently looking for assistance in the form of financial support. If you would like to sponsor Robert he would be truly grateful to hear from you via www.robertpoth.co.uk”
