Sweet revenge for the Hawks

Hatch End Hawks brushed aside the memories of their 23-3 loss to Putney earlier this season with a 10-9 win over the same opposition in the reverse fixture.

A short but intense warm up got the Hawks fired up for the game and they delivered the best display they have put in all season.

The Hawks took an early lead with a cracking goal from Tiffany Lake, but Putney responded swiftly with an equaliser – which set the tone for the remainder of the match.

Goalkeeper Natalie Balfe was making saves from every angle – finishing with a tally of six saves in the first half and 10 in the second – while the Hawks defence worked well as a team to deny some of Putney’s international players clear shots on goal.

The sheer determination and hunger for every ball really shone through and the teams went in at half-time with the scores locked at 5-5.

In the second-half, Hawks continued much of the good play they had demonstrated in the first and maintained the tight scoreline without letting Putney edge ahead.

With only five minutes left on the clock, the Hawks were one goal up and Katie Bohane doubled the advantage three minutes later.

Putney managed to pull one back but the Hawks stood firm to secure the important win.

“It was a very well-fought game and one of the best, if not the best, Hawks performance of the season,” said Captain Elle Davis.
