Terrific Tring on top

Tring Athletic top the league but Leverstock Green have that sinking feeling.

Both sides have played two games apiece now this season, Athletic have six points and sit atop the MSSML Premier Division while Green linger towards the bottom with no points.

Tring beat Kentish Town 3-0 in their opener on Saturday, thanks to a brace from Vinnie Iannone and a Ryan Redford strike.

Redford, who arrived in the close season, went on to net twice against Aylesbury United on Tuesday, with Ashley Addison and Tony Fields also notching.

"It was a fantastic win, and we are so under strength! We have got five key players missing.

"When all the big names come back I'm going to have a real selection problem - but a good problem!"

Casserley went on to praise Redford and Nick Jackson, two of four new signings, as well as Fields.

Redford's goals both came from Jackson crosses in the first half.

After being pegged back to 2-2 sub Addison headed home with his first touch and then Fields struck a stoppage time spot kick to give them the points.

Leverstock Green meanwhile have lost two on the spin.

After a 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Hadley on Saturday Steve Heath's men lost 3-2 to last year's Premier Division runners-up Chalfont St Peter on Tuesday.

However it was not for want of effort.

Craig Preston and Louis Austin put Green 2-1 up, but things went wrong when Ryan Fahy saw red after two bookings.

A Mark Shadbolt own goal helped Chalfont to a 3-2 win.

"We were excellent in the second half and should have gone 3-1 up one point," said Heath.

"There are a lot of positives to come out of a game against a good team."

Both sides have FA Cup games this weekend. Tring are at home to Enfield 1893 while Green entertain Harefield.
