Dacorum & Tring’s Philly Lowe finished a brilliant fourth in the U23 400m hurdles at the England Athletics U23 and U20 Championships and World Trials at Bedford, in a massive PB of 59.46s.
Lowe was second in her qualifying heat in 61.56s, the fifth fastest time, and advanced one place in the final to finish only 0.08 seconds behind the bronze medal position and just two seconds behind eventual winner Hayley McLean – the reigning England U20 and English Schools Champion.
She said she was ‘gutted’ to miss out on a medal, but was pleased to have broken through the 60-second barrier for the first time.
Her Dacorum team-mate Eliot Copperwhite qualified for the semi-final in the U20 men’s 100m with a new PB of 10.83s, beating his previous best of 10.86s, achieved earlier this month in the South of England U20 championships at Crystal Palace.
He has now posted four sub-11 second 100m runs in the past four weeks, with his first coming in May.
