HARDY members of Tring Running Club took part in the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon, testing both their stamina and navigation skills.
10 Tring representatives took part in the two-day team event in which contestants carried food and equipment to spend two days and a night out on the Lakeland mountains.
The event involved navigating between control points on the fells in the fastest time possible, with various courses offering varying levels of distance and ascent to the competitors.
Tring’s father and son duo Alan and Harry Whelan won their event – the Wansfell – a feat made all the more remarkable considering the race was Harry’s first mountain marathon.
Harry is 14 years old and only just qualified to enter the event, but he shrugged off his inexperience to claim the title with his father in impressive style.
