Wasps and Kestrels swoop to take league titles

YOUTH sides Hemel Stags Aces Wasps and Comets Kestrels withstood late pressure to be crowned league champions.

U9 outfit Kestrels went ahead in their game with Watford Town Youth thanks to Charlie Feighery's Beckham-esque effort from the half way line.

And despite being pegged back with 10 minutes to go they held on for a point to become West Herts White Division U9 champions.

Louis Smith set up Alex Dorrington to put Aces Wasps in the same position in their game with Tring Tornadoes Jets. Again a late goal meant there were nerves all round but Aces held out to win the Division Three title.

There were many happy returns for Matty Lee, who scored a hat-trick during Acorn Raiders U11s' 12-2 demolishing of Watford Sports.

Jack Gillings got an incredible five goals, but man of the match went to Jamie Daly, who got a brace. Luke Bradley and Leon Armah got one goal each.

Honours were shared in a real local derby. Hemel Aces and Berkhamsted Raiders Red U11s won one game each of their double header.

Aces' James Verney scored the only goal with a long-ranger in the first game.

In the second game Curtis Bird's opener was not enough as Charlie Stevens, Dan Macey and Jack Bettridge helped Raiders fight back for the win.

Raiders' U12 Red side were unlucky to crash out of the Challenge Cup. They went two down, came back through Sam Ivory but could not find the elusive equaliser against St Albans South.

The club's U18s drew with Alexandra Park in the Watford Friendly League.

Oscar Jackson got the goal for Berko, whose man of the match was Martin Nield.

Berko Raiders U12 player ......... during the Challenge Cup loss to St Albans South.
