Anyone popping in to the Kings Arms next Thursday could be forgiven for thinking they’ve stumbled into a New Orleans blues bar.

Accomplished songwriter, vocalist and pianist Andy Fleet will be jamming with his band in the Berkhamsted pub’s Greene Room, so expect some sumptuous sounds and exquisite tunes.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the magic starts at 8pm, where the atmosphere promises to be anything but fleeting.

Andy, who lives in Berkhamsted with his wife and daughter, said: “I’m very excited about playing in my home town again after a sellout show last time.

“The Greene Room is a lovely venue and we’re very lucky to have such a great space in the heart of Berko.

“I’m getting my full band together for the evening featuring the brilliant jazz trumpet player Andre Canniere along with local guys Pete Kershaw on guitar, Rob Rickenberg on bass and Joe Evans on drums, so it’ll be a big sound.”

Andy comes from a musical family, but he didn’t feel the vibe until he was a little older after an off-the-cuff comment cut deep.

He was helping his brothers get ready for an orchestral concert in a church hall, and his grandad said: “What can Andy do? I know, he can help put the chairs away.”

The remark left him more determined than ever to learn to play an instrument.

Now a proficient pianist with two albums under his belt, Andy draws inspiration from the likes of Tom Waits, John Lennon and Randy Newman.

His music is best described as a combination of jazz, blues and rock.

Supporting on the night is Sarah Doe from Dunstable, who Andy describes as a ‘fine singer songwriter with such style.”

Sarah has been tipped as ‘one to watch’ by Ric Sanders of Fairport Convention, and she’s toured her heartfelt folky-pop across London and the South West.

Tickets for the March 13 gig are £8 from Andy’s website, or £10 on the door on the night.
