A Hemel Hempstead-based choir celebrating its golden jubilee this year is hosting a celebratory bash, with Handel’s Messiah as its pièce de résistance.

Tickets are selling fast for the Aeolian Singer’s 50th Anniversary Concert so you’ll need to be quick to bag a spot at the event, to be held in St John’s Church, Boxmoor, on Saturday, April 5 at 7.30pm.

The showpiece will see Roy Abrams – who conducted the choral group’s first performance of the Messiah five decades ago –return as a cellist.

The choir will be performing with the Chandos Ensemble under the direction of the Aeolians’ musical director Stephen Jones, and the night will feature a variety of solo performances including from former St John’s choir member Katherine Boyce.

Tickets cost £12 or £6 for under 21s. To book, call the box office on 01442 871598.

The Aeolian Singers always welcome new singers. To find out more, email or call 01923 772523.
