Fears that transforming Kings Langley into the fictional capital of Westeros would be a washout have been allayed as hordes of die-hard fans make pilgrimages to the village.
The TV tie-in with cult fantasy drama Game of Thrones features a competition run by production company HBO, in which fans of the show can tweet pictures with the ‘King’s Landing’ signs replacing the village’s usual placards for two weeks.
Sumit Baranwal and Kevin Baddeley travelled from Watford to be in with a chance of winning Game of Thrones merchandise. Kevin said: “We are both fans of the show, so we took up the rare chance to set foot in the capital of Westeros.” Sarah Cunnane and Matt Smith live in Kings Langley and also entered the competition. Matt said: “As village residents and avid Game of Thrones watchers, the prospect of being able to exhibit some hometown pride while nerdily showcasing our love of the show was too great an opportunity to pass up.”
