A chilling new play based on a spookily atmospheric sea story by Joseph Conrad has been described by one critic as “an evening to send shivers up your spine and a chill to your bones”– so it’s appropriate that The Ghost Ship will be docking for one night only at the Old Town Hall in Hemel Hempstead as minds turn to Halloween.
Saturday’s 8pm show comes from Rumpus Theatre Company, which has already adapted period works by Wilkie Collins, Charles Dickens and Edgar Allen Poe to similar spine-tingling effect.
His tongue loosened by liquor in the cosy corner of a seaside inn, Conrad tells his daughter Bea and her fiancé Joe the terrifying tale of a storm-battered ship and the ghost of a fearful sailor who comes to haunt all their dreams.
The cast includes Rumpus regular Amanda Howard, whose credits include TV’s Band Of Gold, and newcomers James Folan and Ed Hartland.
