There’s another serious slab of high culture being beamed into the unlikely surroundings of Hemel Hempstead’s LeisureWorld complex next week.
For the latest of a planned series of simulcast screenings of highbrow events from London, the team at the Empire Cinema are preparing to welcome ballet fans who want to sit back and enjoy The Nutcracker live from the Royal Opera House, and then perhaps have a drive-through McDonalds and do some late-night shopping in Tesco.
Tchaikovsky’s Christmas-themed ballet will be beamed in on Thursday evening, with Laura Morera and Federico Bonelli taking the lead roles.
Empire marketing director Jon Nutton said: “We are thrilled to be screening The Nutcracker live
“Our Empire Arts screenings are hugely popular and with this showing over the festive period we’re anticipating that it will attract families and parents with young children.
“The Nutcracker is a classic ballet and the perfect night out for the family this Christmas”
A similar screening last year claimed number two spot in the UK box office that night, even beating James Bond thriller Skyfall.
