Comedy stars queue up for laughter slots

Chris Ramsey: Tring show is sold out
Chris Ramsey: Tring show is sold out

Big names on the comedy circuit are starting to flex their muscles in the all-important push for Christmas DVD sales, and there are some star performers strutting their stuff on local stages in the coming weeks.

If you were hoping to pick up a last-minute ticket for affable Geordie Chris Ramsey’s set at the Court Theatre in Tring next Thursday, October 3, then think again – the crazily-coiffured comedian is definitely on the up after his turn in TV sitcom Hebburn and the gig has been sold out for weeks.

Chris has been a regular visitor to Tring for shows organised by the Get Stuffed team and those who had the sense to get in early will be relishing what’s in store.

The following Monday Sean Lock is bringing his Purple Van Man tour to Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre.

The acerbic Eight Out Of 10 Cats team captain has a string of TV credits and awards to his name, but it’s as a live performer that he’s really rated by comedy insiders. Find out more at www.atgtickets.com.

If the £26.90 ticket price for the October 7 date is a bit rich for your blood, there’s a budget comedy bill on offer on the same evening.

You’ll be able to enjoy Croydon troubadour Jonny Awsum and Welsh chartered surveyor and property magnate turned later life stand-up Rhodri Rhys at the first session of the new season of Hemel Hempstead’s Old Town Hall Screaming Blue Murder comedy club.

SBM has a proud record of introducing new talent which stretches back nearly 25 years. Tickets are £8, or £6 for concessions and Dacorum Card holders – visit www.oldtownhall.co.uk for more.

Also back on the stand-up scene is Father Ted star Ardal O’Hanlon, who is heading to the Alban Arena on Saturday, October 12 – tickets are £20, visit www.alban-arena.co.uk.
