It’s not just 50 local jobs and delicious food Chiquito has brought to Hemel Hempstead since opening last month, it’s sent a wave of Mexican feel good factor to the town too.
Just ask anyone that has been there since it opened as part of the rejuvenated Jarman Park Fields development last month.
Chiquito’s Tex Mex offering is certainly popular with Dacorum residents if a recent competition we ran in the Gazette is anything to go by – we had more than 400 entries to win a family meal for four.
After a number of rebrands, Chiquito is back to its very best in Hemel Hempstead.
This is good family fun, full of choice at reasonable prices. The menu, both food and drink, is absolutely vast and perhaps there is even too much choice – if there is such a thing?
You could be forgiven for thinking you’re in South America with the Mexican music filling the air and a real buzz throughout.
If you drink at the bar first and try one of the cocktails, the friendly bar staff are on hand to describe what they are doing, what’s going in your cocktail and why.
Sombreros at your table add to the fun vibe but it is the food where Chiquito – most importantly – gets it right.
Choice really is the buzz word and you are spoilt for it with everything from a burger list which puts the likes of Gourmet Burger Kitchen to shame to tacos, burritos, fajitas and the fantastic tostada platter – Tex Mex flatbreads with different toppings.
There’s plenty for vegetarians to enjoy too and if its a special occasion like a birthday you’ll certainly know about it, as will everyone else in the restaurant.
Depending on how busy it is, wait times for tables could vary quite a lot and as with all newly-opened restaurants there may be teething problems but the team at Hemel certainly seem to have hit the ground running in this vibrant addition to the town’s growing and steadily improving restaurant scene.
