IN the intimate environment of Berkhamsted’s small but perfectly formed Friend’s Meeting House, fabulous ensemble Chroma will present both Janacek String Quartets, as well as a retelling of Tolstoy’s Kreutzer Sonata by storyteller Angie Wallis, and a selection of Intimate Letters from Janacek to Kamila Stösslová.
Janacek’s String Quartet no.1, ‘Kreutzer Sonata’ - inspired by Tolstoy’s novella, is a bitter tale of sex, suspicion and murder.
His String Quartet No.2, ‘Intimate Letters’ - is a ‘manifesto on love’ inspired by his long and spiritual friendship with Kamila Stösslova, a married woman 38 years his junior.
Come and listen to the harrowing tale of a jealous husband who murders his adulterous wife, and revel in Janacek’s love for Kamila Stösslova, alongside two of the most passionate quartets in the repertoire!
The critically acclaimed Chroma Ensemble will perform at the Friends Meeting House, 289 High Street, Berkhamsted on Friday, July 8, 8pm.
