There’s no shortage of seasonal music over the next few days as we head towards Christmas at a rate of knots.

First up is a Saturday evening concert at St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted, where the Berkhamsted Choral Society will be paying a topical tribute to the music of Benjamin Britten.

This year marks the centenary of the composer’s birth, and his charming Ceremony of Carols – a collection of nine medieval/Renaissance carols with a beautiful interlude for solo harp – is the centrepiece of the concert, which starts at 7.30pm.

There will also be music from English Philharmonia Brass, a selection of other modern and traditional choral works, and carols for choir and audience.

The Britten link has also been picked up on by the Hemel Hempstead Singers, who will be including the same work in their concert at the town’s St Mary’s Church on Sunday.

Harpist Rachel Wick is the soloist and the concert starts at 4pm. Refreshments will be served in the interval.

Tickets, at £10 each, are available from the choir secretary on 01442 386657, or on the door.

Sunday will also see the popular Salvation Army carol service at the Citadel in Waterhouse Street, Hemel Hempstead.

For the 45th annual concert there are two performances, one at 2.30pm and one at 5pm, and tickets are £3 (£2.50 concessions).

On Tuesday night St John’s Church in Boxmoor will be filled with the sound of Age UK’s Three Choirs Festive Concert. Tickets are £5 in advance and will also be available on the door – to find out more call 01442 259049.

And next Saturday, December 14, the same venue will host a carol concert led by the Aeolian Singers, part of the church’s popular Christmas tree festival.

The 7.30pm concert will also feature the Leverstock Green Primary School choir along with Robin Kimber on the organ, Anna Le Hair on piano and Sean Bracebridge on trumpet, with Stephen Jones conducting.

Adults pay £12 which includes one free ticket for a child under 16, with additional under 16s paying £3. Call 01442 871598 to reserve yours.
