FOLLOWING months of rehearsals and preparation, next month Dacorum Youth Productions will premiere their version of Billy Elliot the Musical, produced as part of Billy Youth Theatre.

Lee Hall, the writer of Billy Elliot the Musical, rewrote the production for a youth cast, and just a select number of schools and theatre groups from around the UK were invited to stage their own production of this award-winning musical.

Director Liz Raba said: “Billy Elliot is a fantastic, well-crafted musical and has allowed us a great opportunity for all aspects of performance to be showcased.

“It also has a fantastic storyline - about the pursuit of dreams and the importance of a community stepping forward to support each other.

“This is something that has been integral to the way that we have rehearsed and developed this production, and young people from all across Dacorum have had the opportunity to come together, share a common interest and develop friendships that will last way beyond the final performance.

“It has been a pleasure as their director, to see them grow in confidence, to watch them take risks, and to challenge themselves to do justice to the production, to their fellow cast members, and to themselves.”
