A town centre mall is encouraging its shoppers to take summer to the extreme with a series of daredevil sporting opportunities.
The Marlowes Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead is teaming up with Sportspace, The XC and Snow Centre in a bid to get customers to experience the best of the town’s extreme sport offerings.
Daring sport fans were given an easy head-start on the free scheme, with a hula-hooping contest held on Saturday. The loopiest hoopers bagged themselves a Sportspace goodie bag.
This Saturday, from 11am to 4pm, pro skateboarders and BMX masters will wheely down to the centre to offer taster sessions and teach wannabe skaters new skills and tricks.
At the same times on the following Saturday, August 9, experts from the Snow Centre in nearby St Albans Hill will be searching for the best snowboarder in the town, by challenging shoppers to see who can stay on their specially-designed simulator the longest.
The competition will be split into two categories – under 12s and over 12s – with the winners receiving exclusive ‘Extreme Hemel’ goodie bags.
And the fun could even last all year round, as shoppers can also enter weekly competitions with prizes including ski or snowboarding lessons, and membership packages to the XC and Sportspace.
Marlowes centre manager Vince Williams said: “Within Hemel we have a fantastic range of unique sporting centres, so it is great to be able to showcase this while providing
free activities, keeping kids busy throughout the summer holidays.”
> Also at the centre, this month’s Snapperjaxx club takes on the theme, ‘All the fun of the fair’. Roll up, roll up to the free kids activity sessions on the hour, every hour between 11am and 4pm on Sunday, August 10. For more about events at the Marlowes, visit themarlowes.co.uk
