CANAL fans got to see all that lurks beneath the water during a behind the scenes exhibition of waterway works.
British Waterways opened up the works site at Marsworth to show what is going on and why the works are necessary.
The open days provided a unique opportunity to take a closer look at the hidden workings of the waterways and to see the massive task required to keep the canals shipshape.
The £68,000 works at the lock gate repairs are part of a national £50million makeover of historic locks, bridges and aqueducts up and down the country.
Visitors were able to watch the old lock gates being craned out and replaced by custom-made gates.
The work also included the installation of water tight seals, repair of brickwork and replacement of the fencing around the side ponds.
