Architect of new sports hall at Berkhamsted’s Ashlyns School says: ‘My plans are still fluid’

Borough planning officers are backing the concept of a new sports hall for Ashlyns School despite concerns that its concrete cladding could violate the Grade II-listed site.

Architect Bob Thompson met with the Dacorum Borough Council officials on Thursday and said his plans were ‘rather fluid’ at this stage.

He said: “They made some suggestions, so we are going to feed that into the development of the design.”

He said the visit was to allow them to assess whether the borough planning experts backed the concept of the sports hall and its position within the Ashlyns campus, which they do.

He said: “It’s all really rather fluid, but we are working together and I am sure the solutions will be acceptable to them.”

Berkhamsted Town Council last week said the landmark site, and the pupils, deserved a better-designed sports hall.

As well as being Grade II-listed, the campus is within the Green Belt, a meeting of the town council’s planning committee heard last week.
