BUSINESSES at a parade of shops in Grovehill are fed up of their customers getting soaked by heavy rain due to the failing of a faulty canopy that is meant to shelter the walkway outside.
Shop-owners and managers in Henry Wells Square, Aycliffe Drive, say that the design of the canopy means that during bouts of heavy rain water pours down onto shoppers below instead of draining away properly.
Landlord of the Greenacres II pub Sean Kelly said: “It’s been an issue for us for years now, ever since it went up really.
“Whenever it rains the water just pours down on to customers, it puts people off.
“All of the businesses up here are fed up of the situation.
“When we speak to the council they just fob us off.”
Owner of the 1,000 Bubbles Launderette Guido Rasura said: “My clients are not coming into the shop because water is pouring in.
“The council come here pretending they are doing something but as soon as we get rain I lose business.
“In this day and age I can’t afford to lose clients. It’s ridiculous.”
Previously Dacorum Borough Council has promised to carry out works to ensure pipes are not being blocked.
At the time of going to press the council had not responded.
