AN irate driver is believed to have hit a traffic warden deliberately after he was challenged for parking in a disabled bay.

The traffic warden was carried about 20 yards on the bonnet of the car before it sped away from the scene near St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted High Street.

Police were called just before 5pm on Thursday.

The warden was taken to hospital with minor injuries, but was released an hour later. A source said he suffered bruising and may have pulled a muscle in his back.

He has been signed off work for a while – but our source tells us the ordeal has not made him want to quit his job.

The driver of the car – believed to be a black Honda – is still on the loose.

Police spokesman Daniel Phillips said: “Our investigation is ongoing.”
