LADIES from a Berkhamsted school have pledged to walk 11 miles through the night in memory of a colleague who died of pancreatic cancer.

The 10 women, who all work at Bridgewater School in Bridle Way, will be pounding the pavement as part of the Hospice of St Francis Walk With The Stars fundraising event on Saturday, June 11.

Their efforts will be in memory of their friend Hilary Collis, of Boxmoor, who worked as an administrator at the school, and who was cared for at the Berkhamsted-based hospice during her last days.

The mum-of-one died in March this year, aged just 48.

Sue Cole, from Cheddington, one of the ‘Bridgewater Girls’, said: “Some of us are a little daunted, having never completed a walk of this type before, but we will encourage each other walking in Hilary’s memory and the school will support us too.”

The midnight walk, which will see pink-clad fundraisers set off from Hemel Hempstead School to Berkhamsted and back again, is now in its fifth year.

Prizes are up for grabs, including Champneys spa days and a holiday worth £500.

For the first time the event has been opened up to men and participants can choose between a five or 11-mile route.

All types of fancy dress are encouraged. Sign up at www.wwts.org.uk or call 01442 869555.
