A TRING pub has been given a new lease of life by the owners of another successful pub in the market town.
The 100-year-old Anchor pub in Western Road re-opened on Thursday, December 22 under the ownership of Stewart Canham and Terry Johnson, who have run the Robin Hood pub in the town for six years.
Run distinctly from the pair’s other Tring venture, the aim is to create a traditional local drinking pub with a focus on pub games such as cribbage, poker and dominoes.
Stewart said: “I always thought it’d be a good drinking pub and a good, friendly local.
“We opened last Thursday and since then we’ve had a really good response, which is fantastic.
“We’ve had lots of people in over Christmas although this will die off a bit in January and February which is only natural.
“We are keen to bring back some of the games that have become regular pub favourites such as cribbage, and poker on a Sunday night, and we’d like to bring a regular darts team back.”
The Anchor had been empty since previous landlady Wendy Ryan was forced to retire from running the pub in September after 35 years.
Ricki and Sandra Walker, who have worked at the Robin Hood in the past, are managing and running the Anchor.
