Longer hours and new look on the cards as Leverstock Green post office prepares for shutdown and refit

Leverstock Green’s post office is closing for nearly a fortnight for a refit – but a modern look and longer hours are promised when the village centre counter is back in business.

As part of a nationwide drive to modernise the network and extend opening hours, the refurbished post office will have three serving positions – one open plan, one modern screened position and a serving point at the retail counter where most transactions can be carried out during shop opening hours.

That means Post Office services will be available seven days a week and opening hours will be extended by 33 hours a week (Monday to Saturday 6am to 6pm, Sunday 6am to 1pm).

Car tax will also be added to the services on offer.

The office will be putting up the shutters at 5.30pm on Tuesday, March 11 and the new-look branch is scheduled to open for business again at 1pm on Friday, March 21.

Post Office area manager Kevin Shepherd said: “We understand how important post office services are to people and we are confident this new modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches.

“This investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The nearest alternative post offices are in Queen’s Square, Adeyfield and the Bennetts End neighbourhood shopping area.
