Maylands Business Park green heating scheme scrapped

PLANS for a heating network on the Maylands Business Park powered by green energy have been scrapped.

The cost of installing the necessary equipment and unpredictable demand from firms means the scheme ‘will not be viable’.

A report to a meeting of Dacorum Borough Council’s cabinet says: “A district heating facility on the Maylands Business Park will not be viable at this time and for the foreseeable future.”

Instead, £130,000 of the £300,000 allocated to the project will be used to instal solar panels on the council’s Maylands Business Centre. Councillor Stephen Holmes, cabinet chief for planning and regeneration, said: “Maylands is working towards becoming a green business park, and installing this system is one way we can reduce our consumption of natural resources and encourage the use of renewable energy.”
