All businesses watch closely what they spend their hard-earned cash on these days – but how much is involvement in community schemes still worth?

A lot, according to one of Dacorum’s leading employers.

Kodak continues to support the Young People of the Year Awards – or ‘YOPEYs’, which are just about to start again in Hertfordshire for the seventh year.

Hemel Hempstead-based Kodak has been involved for two years. Gill Beard, the Station Road-based firm’s corporate PR manager, said: “To be involved in YOPEY means we can support those individuals or teams for doing something amazing for others.

“They are the generation that do make a difference and the YOPEY awards means their actions can be highlighted and rewarded.”

Gill said Kodak has been part of the Dacorum community for more than 35 years, “and we are proud to be supporting the YOPEY awards for the third consecutive year.”

YOPEY was devised by former national newspaper journalist Tony Gearing. He was fed up with the ‘bad press’ young people receive. Mr he set out to find young people doing positive things and in particular ‘giving to others’ at home or in the community.

“YOPEY looks for young people who might have overcome challenges in their life, used their own experiences in a positive way and gone on to help others.”
