The DENS Dacorum Foodbank had to call in the military when it moved its mountain of supplies for needy families to a larger warehouse.
Members of the RAF provided the muscle power for the charity’s move to its new premises, just around the corner and still in Hemel Hempstead’s Paradise industrial estate.
The bigger building allows foodbank manager Sharon Boyall to better organise, assemble and distribute the emergency food parcels, of which more than 3,500 were handed out in the borough last year.
Shelving units were also supplied free of charge by Storax and alongside the RAG, a small army of DENS volunteers turned out to ensure that the move went smoothly.
Dacorum homelessness support charity DENS is due to hold its annual fundraising and awareness week from Saturday, October 11 – on which day a stall will be held in Hemel Hempstead featuring a mock-up food parcel and a current homeless person talking about their situation.
